Natural Learning

I thought I would make a note of some of the learning activities that happened here in one day. None of these were prompted or scheduled by me at all.
  • Drew a picture of the characters from a tv show
  • Asked me how to spell 'bread' and 'cheese' and wrote them down on a peice of paper
  • Drew up plans to build himself an art set, including drawers and containers to hold his crayons
  • Continued his ongoing project of building a wall out of spare pavers
  • Asked me to play a board game with him
  • Played with local kids at the park. He approached them and said 'Hi, My name is D, I'm 4 years old and I like spiderman'
  • Read about 15 books - mostly on his own but he occasionally asks me to read a word for him

Natural learning really is that easy - provide the materials and the opportunities and kids want to learn!

I love that kind of learning. So natural, spontaneous, and significant.... Plus there is a real joy, and effortlessness about it all. Thanks for sharing.
